Animal and food science focused research at the University of Newcastle UNEW is based in the School of Agriculture, Food and Rural Development AFRD.

AFRD has 60 academic staff covering both natural and social sciences and is one of the largest agricultural R&D and teaching organisations in the UK.

Three AFRD groups are involved in LowInputBreeds:

• Nafferton Ecological Farming Group NEFG
• Integrated Animal Science Group IASG
• Food Science Group FSG

The University of Newcastle acts as the coordinator of the LowInputBreeds project.
