Mexico: Information seminars on organic farming

The Autonomous University of Chapingo is organising several seminars for government officials and other representatives of the organic sector, in order to inform about organic farming.

Commissioned by the Ministry of Agriculture of Mexico, Chapingo University is currently conducting the seminars for the organic sector.

On September 25, 2009, the first series, aiming at government officals was concluded.The aim was to encourage them to makre more funds available for organic farming: 85 million US Dollars have been available for investments since 2006, so far, however, only 35 million have been spent.

A further workshop will deal with the development of the organic norm for Mexico. The Costa Rican and Argentinian experiences will be presented as well as the European regulation.
